Before Anything Else

Before MTV Rock On, before Rani Mukerjee’s blazing lead solo that was played on a bass guitar in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, before the somewhat lame Farhan Akhtar’s Rock On and even way before Bollywod decided to call every reality dance show participant ‘Rock Star ‘, there was Rock Machine, now known as Indus Creed. Hell Yeah, before everything else it was Indus Creed who decided to baptise the Bollywood Infested youths with the sound of the Gods. Though some might argue but we cannot deny the fact that it was Indus Creed who started the fire.

Most kids would say ‘what’s so metal about Indus Creed’ as according to the present Indian Metal scene, a band is not a metal band unless your vocalist growl, Drop D Guitar Tuning and Double Bass Drum. Though Indus Creed might not meet the requirements but their first album ‘Rock 'N ' Roll Renegade’ is among one of the best albums released by an Indian Band. I remember listening all their three albums in my cassette player but never got the chance to see them live, until the Harley Rock Riders finale in New Delhi, which happened on 4th December 2010 at the Hamsadhwani. After watching them playing live, all I can say is ‘the sleeping giant is awake’.

If you have never heard of Indus Creed (Which is almost impossible for an Indian Metal Head, check out their song ‘Top of the Rock’ from the first album. They even have a video for this song. Honestly, the video is kind of funny with all the puffy hairs and ultra-tight jeans. If you take the video away, the song is kick ass. If this doesn’t work, listen to their hit ‘Pretty Child’ from the album ‘the Second Coming’.

  1. For the record, I think the growling "cookie monster vocals" as I call them, sound STUPID.
